REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

JULY 8, 2013

7:00 P.M.

 

CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Board of Education for the Hayes Center Public Schools District #43-0079 was held on Monday, July 8, 2013 in the Conference Room at the High School. Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication and posted in accordance with the Board policy of giving notice of such meetings. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all Board members.

ROLL CALL- President Anderjaska called the meeting to order at 7:04 P.M. with Superintendent Ron Howard, and Board members Joe Anderjaska, Britt Hill, Amanda Johnson, Marian Richards and Bob Rosno present. Connie Brott was absent and excused by the board.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by those in attendance.

RECOGNITION OF VISITORS: There were no visitors present.

 RECOGNITION OF OPEN MEETINGS ACT POSTER -The Open Meetings Act Poster was in the room and recognized by President Anderjaska.

ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA: Richards moved, seconded by Hill, to adopt the agenda except to table item i-Approval of 6-12  Social Studies Textbooks until next spring excluding the American Government Textbooks. Voting yes: Anderjaska, Brott, B.Hill, Johnson, Richards, Rosno. Voting no: None.   Motion passed 5-0 with 1 absent.

AUDIENCE COMMUNICATIONS-None    TEACHER ASSOCIATION UPDATE-None   BOARD MEMBER/COMMITTEE REPORTS/REQUESTS: None

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT- Storm update on buildings-the Building and Grounds Committee will meet with Mr. Howard to discuss estimates and to bring back recommendations for repairs.  Custodial Positions-the Elementary Custodial position has not been filled yet. Mr. Howard has put an ad in the McCook Gazette. The board has also asked that he put the ad in some of the other area papers.   PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – None.

ACTION ITEMS- CONSENT AGENDA-Johnson moved, seconded by Hill , to approve the consent agenda consisting of the Approval of minutes for the June 3, 2013 Regular meeting,   Approval of June General Fund additional claims of $20,698.04, Approval of Building Fund claims of $41,851.86, Approval of Depreciation Fund claim of $14,054.88, Approval of Bond Fund claim of $350.00, Approval of Qualified Capital Undertaking Fund claim of $4,925.00, Approval of July General Fund claims $169,720.01(Payroll - $119,954.10  Claims - $49,765.91),  Approval of Special Education teaching contract, Approval of American Government textbooks, Approve district-wide handbooks for 2013-2014, Approve local substitute certificate. Voting yes: Hill, Johnson, Richards, Rosno, Anderjaska. Voting no:  none. Absent: Brott.  Motion passed 5-0 with 1 absent.

Future Agenda Items/Other: Multi-cultural plan- Snapshot of 2013-2014 Budget- New Board policies approval-Parental Involvement Hearing.

President Anderjaska adjourned the meeting at 7:30 P.M.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the board of education will be August 12, 2013 at 7:00 P.M.
